Hi to All, Please take extra care guys wherever you are, take care of your love ones too. Especially to our friends in Singapore, more being confirmed, and are through community spread, no longer from people who travelled from China. Observe proper hygiene at all times and also monitor our little ones as they often put their hands in their mouth.
Welcome to the New and Upgraded Pinoy AU Forum! We have only updated a couple of times since 2010. Apology it took some time. Some of the features are still being migrated. Please feel free to report here or email me at [email protected] if you will encounter any issues. Thank you.

I haven't lost everything except my mind...

    magandang topic to @thegreatiam15 I think applicable rin to for those Families who are living abroad. like for the case of our Daugther. hindi namin cya tinuruan mag tagalog. puro english lang. but slowly tinuturuan namin cya ng mga simple tagalog words. kasi nakakawa rin pag naguusap kame ni misis ng tagalog at hindi nya naiintindihan.

    ung friend namin sa US, me rule sila na pag sa loob ng bahay Filipino-only lang ang usapan..I guess effective naman kasi nakakapag salita at intindi naman ang kids nya ng Filipino, although the kids find it funny daw pag nagsasalita sila kasi malabot at me "twang".. so nahihiya sila pag ibang Pinoy ang kausap.. haha.

    Kailangan na consistently kinakausap sila sa Tagalog at ini-encourage na sumagot sa Tagalog. Madaling matuto ng English ang mga bata. My youngest was 4 when we moved here, Tagalog lang alam nya. After 1 week sa kinder, conversant na sya sa English - with matching Aussie accent pa. After a couple of years hirap na sya mag-Tagalog kahit na Tagalog ang usapan namin sa bahay.

    2) Magpatugtog tayo ng mga Tagalog songs. Kung bata pa, mga Filipino Nursery Rhymes (Tong Tong Tong Pakitong, Pen Pen De Sarapen, Ako Ay May Lobo, Sampung Mga Daliri, atbp).

    3) Magpapanood tayo sa kanila ng mga pambatang Tagalog na palabas, tulad ng Hiraya Manawari.

    4) Basahan natin sila ng mga Tagalog na libro (books from Adarna, Tahanan, Lampara, etc). Siguraduhin rin natin na hindi magtatapos sa pagbabasa ng kuwento. Dapat magtanong rin tayo sa kanila ng mga tungkol sa kuwento para makatulong sa kanila na ma-comprehend yung naririnig niya (Ano pangalan nung tao sa kuwento? Anong ginawa nila? Saan sila pumunta? Bakit kaya niya yun ginawa? Kung nangyari yun sayo, anong gagawin mo?)

    Ayan lang naiisip ko sa ngayon. Sana nakatulong! :D

    @C_hiLL

    bossing maraming salamat sa inputs itatry ko na sa anak ko hehe nabasa ko mga comments nyo dito pinatake down ko muna english nursery rhymes haha

    @sunflower

    bibilihin ko na nga yung yellow na book na my abakada e kolektahin ko na mga OPM songs namen pero madalas mga hindi yung super luma na haha
    ung friend namin sa US, me rule sila na pag sa loob ng bahay Filipino-only lang ang usapan..I guess effective naman kasi nakakapag salita at intindi naman ang kids nya ng Filipino, although the kids find it funny daw pag nagsasalita sila kasi malabot at me "twang".. so nahihiya sila pag ibang Pinoy ang kausap.. haha.
    naiisip ko baka kasi naiilang na mga bata kapag ganoon tapos magtataka bakit nagagalit parents nila haha

    looks like yung kinatatakutan ko nangyari na sayo hopefully makaimbento pa tayo nag mga ways para icurb tong bagay na ito sana hindi inevitable ang sistemang ito

    I think this is inevitable, in most cases. I've seen lots of families -- in Singapore, Australia and US -- where the kids understand tagalog but can't, or have difficulty, speaking it. Even in my household, it's the same. My eldest can understand Tagalog, and at some point, tried speaking a bit of it but has had difficulty expressing herself or simply does not have the confidence, not to mention masagwa minsan ang pronunciation / delivery.

    Siguro if gusto talaga ng mga magulang na matutong magtagalog ang kanilang mga anak -- read, write and speak -- then they may want to consider sending them for Tagalog lessons, or find time to actually teach them. Unfortunately, the latter is probably easier said than done for most parents (especially those working).
