Seeking inspiration for Marketing Specialist job in AU

beckibecki MandaluyongPosts: 7Member
Hi guys,

I was hoping there are success stories out there from someone whose background is Marketing and got sponsored by an AU employer while still in the Philippines?

I tried the SkillSelect a few years back but my plans changed. I went as far as VA assessment and IELTS then but was not able to continue the process due to priorities. These are now expired as it's been 3 years. I am trying to revisit my migration plan but I was hoping I can land a job offer first relevant to my experience..

Would appreciate any tips on how to get an employer willing to sponsor a job in Marketing in AU? Marketing is still under STSOL. I tried all job portals like SEEK and Indeed as well as openings in LinkedIn.

I'm currently active in the job market here in the Philippines as I got retrenched.
Now really hoping this is the right timing for me to pursue my AU dream..

Maraming Salamat! :)

    @becki Won't you apply for visa 190 or 489?
  • magueromaguero AdelaidePosts: 604Member
The reason I'm asking is because there are changes to visa 457 effective next year and Marketing Specialist is one of the occupations with caveats.

@maguero I just read about that abolition of 457.. If my understanding is correct, it would be more difficult for me to apply for this visa because of the restrictions favoring more the Aussie workforce? Tama ba? I was hopeful pa naman on this option because I need job security sana..
I am not so keen on the 190 or 489 because i was hoping to avoid the assessment process again. Nanghinayang ako dun sa binayad ko dati.. Then I will have to wait if a state would nominate me pa.. Haaayyy.. Paano pa kaya..

    Thanks for the reply! :)

@becki Hindi ako masyadong familiar sa new rule pero my understanding is our occupation is only eligible for a 2 year working visa, mas strict na yung rules para makakuha nun, and this visa will no longer lead to a permanent visa. Ngayon kasi pag naka-457 may pathway to a PR visa.

Check mo ito. Baka naman kailangan mo lang iparenew yung skills assessment mo.

@becki Same tayo na Marketing Specialist, pero aiming for Visa489 ako. Tapos na ako sa VETASSESS, PTE and EOI. Waiting to land a job offer from an employer sa NT or Tas. Fingers crossed sana may makuha. Sa SA naman, kulang ang points ko. I have to retake PTE para makakuha additional points.

@seochellaga Hi! Can you share po more info on this? Wala kasing specifically nakalagay sa list of jobs na digital marketing. Only marketing specialist and it's under STSOL. I'm currently in digital marketing, 7 years na and I'd like to obtain an AU visa. Found out only through this thread na possible to apply for a PR visa if ito ang occupation.
  • magueromaguero AdelaidePosts: 604Member
@imba Yes it's possible to immigrate with this occupation although hindi kasing dali ng ibang occupations kasi kaunti lang states na nagssponsor and limited din slots nila. More than 18 months bago ako nakakuha ng ITA. Pero ang important, nauwi din naman sa visa. Just be ready to apply for sponsorship as soon as the fiscal year re-starts in July.

@maguero Thank you so much sa reply. :) May I ask so what did you do first po? Find an employer via SEEK or Linkedin?
  • magueromaguero AdelaidePosts: 604Member
@imba Visa 489 ako so no need for an employer to sponsor me.

    Hi!

Im working in advertising here sa Pinas. I wonder if pasok siya sa digital marketing since digital heavy naman work namin.

Anyway, iniisip ko ngayon which path to take on my way to AU. There's the finding jobs online (community manager, copywriting-related), and there's applying for 189 via points system. More than 8 years na rin ako nagwowork and mag32 years old pa lang din ako so im just wondering ano yung best way to get to australia.

    Salamat sa magrerespond!

@France11 Carefully check the job tasks required for a successful skills assessment for Advertising Specialist and for Marketing Specialist, then have yourself assessed for the occupation which most closely fits your work experience. The advertising or marketing medium doesn't seem to matter much in the assessment, what seems to matter is whether or not you are doing the tasks that Vetassess requires for those occupations.

Both Advertising Specialist and Marketing Specialist aren't eligible for a 189 visa. You have to check which states sponsor your occupation for 190 or 491 visas. 491 visa is a provisional visa with a guaranteed pathway to a PR visa once you satisfy the visa conditions.

You can try applying for jobs online but most employers prefer to hire someone who already has working rights here. This is because it's expensive to hire overseas workers. The employer will have to do job market testing to ensure no one here is qualified for the job opening and they have to pay a levy.

Given your age and number of years of work experine I suggest you try to get a 190 or 491 visa.

@maguero Thank you so much! Sige will explore those options. Right now, I’m looking at ad agencies either sa syndey or melbourne to apply to then if wala talaga maybe to other states and hindi siguro ad agency (maybe in house or something).

    Anyway thank you again, @maguero.
